New York City’s cheesecake factory, Macy’s, will open on the West Side of Manhattan.
Macy’s is one of a handful of major American companies to open in the city this year, following a string of big-box stores opening in cities around the country.
Macy’s, which also owns the Gap, will occupy a vacant space at the corner of Broadway and Fifth Ave.
The store’s opening will mark Macy’s first foray into the area, which is home to the nation’s biggest shopping mall.
Macy is the first major American retailer to open a new store in Manhattan since 2011.
The opening comes just weeks after Macy’s announced plans to reopen its flagship store on the Upper East Side of the city in the spring.
It’s expected that the Macy’s on Broadway store will be the second Macy’s to open on Broadway in the coming months, following the opening of a new Macy’s store on Fifth Avenue.
This isn’t the first time Macy’s has opened a new Manhattan location.
In January, Macy, which has struggled to find success in the boroughs surrounding New York, announced plans for a second store in the Lower East Side.
But this is the third Macy’s opening in Manhattan.
