Nudist club members and guests at the Northcote park are among those calling for a boycott of the city’s annual Pride Parade, after two gay men were beaten and robbed at the event.
The men, aged 30 and 34, were in the park for the parade to mark the end of the Pride month and were attacked and robbed on Sunday.
“We were walking past the park on Saturday evening and we saw two guys in the group of about five people.
They were walking down the street and they suddenly started running towards us,” one of the men, James McPherson, told news.com.au.
“It was a complete melee and we were in shock.
I had to hold my back from the man until I could get to my friend.”
Mr McPhersson, who is also a member of the North Cote community, said he was not surprised by the attack, as he was a member to the club and knew many of its members.
“I know many of them and have been in the club for 20 years,” he said.
“You would never expect to see anything like that.” “

The Northcove area has a strong gay community, with LGBTI+ rights activist Josh Doyles saying the attack was a “big deal” and one of many recent homophobic incidents in the area.
